Abu Dhabi, 06 October, 2019: UAE Banks Federation (UBF), in collaboration with Central Bank of The UAE, announced today that it played a significant advisory role in the innovation and enhancement of UAE PASS, the newly unveiled mobile application which acts as a digital identity and digital signature solution for residents and visitors in the UAE.
The joint initative between Smart Dubai, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), is one of the latest tools that have been launched in the public sector in an effort to drive the digitalization of services across the UAE. Over 50 banks in the UAE are preparing for the implementation of UAE PASS, with some ready to integrate the new authentication system as soon as next month.
First presented to the public at GITEX in 2018, the platform provides easy digital access to various government and non-government services and will act as a single trusted identity solution for citizens and visitors in the UAE. More specifically, UAE PASS will allow users the ability to conduct financial transactions, upload documents, validate documents (using digital signatures or a digital fingerprint authentication system), and will provide a digital vault to share data between users – without using their Emirates IDs.
H.E. AbdulAziz Al Ghurair, Chairman of UAE Banks Federation, said: “We have recently witnessed a tremendous extent of change in digital transformation initiatives and the UAE Pass is a fantastic example of how the boundaries of innovation are constantly being pushed to enhance services and user experiences across the UAE. The application will help accelerate access to government and non-government services through an innovative platform that is paperless, safe and makes procedures faster and more convenient than before. As the leading industry association for the UAE banking sector, we carefully consulted our 52-member banks to help drive the adoption and integration of the platform, whilst maintaining outstanding security procedures and a simple, seamless user experience.”
The app has been aptly designed so that banks, as well as other financial institutions, will authorize instant bank accounts openings and transactions for individuals and corporate customers that use UAE Pass. Users will also be provided access to online accounts, giving them the ability to add beneficiaries and give consent on transfers.
UAE Pass has already started to make a big impact on the digitalization of government services across the UAE – as of August 2019, more than 40 entities and 55 service channels have already been onboarded, including RTA, DEWA, UAE Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Education. It has also made it possible to start a new business in as little as 15 minutes.
Signing up to UAE Pass is a quick process - users can simply download the app on the App Store or Google Play, scan their Emirates ID, verify their mobile number and email, secure their account with a PIN, and visit their nearest registration kiosk to complete a digital verification process for digital signing and fingerprints.
